Mekong is a regular landrace strain from a latitude of 18° north that is suitable for either outdoor or greenhouse cultivation.  From an important are of production of ‘Thai’ ganja, the rice-growing lowlands of Vientiane Province, Central Laos, immediately across the Mekong River from famous centres of ‘Thai stick’ production in northern Isan. Buds are either seedless or lightly-seeded and intended for consumption as ganja.

Being a sub-tropical sativa, the life-cycle of Mekong cannabis is long, taking approximately siz months from seedling to harvest. In Laos, planting takes place typically between June and September for harvest ibetween December and April. Plants tend to be tall and slender with typical sativa thin-fingered leaves. The colas are surprisingly large and are very strongly-scented.
